WEmpower Strategy
Our strategy towards access to health equity for LBQT+ persons is informed by the voices and lived experiences of the LBQT+ community in Western Kenya. Because, we're here to make the world a better place, our strategy is based on feminist ethics entrenched in the African Feminist Charter,
self, collective care and accountability. We empower LBQT Persons in Kisumu, by ensuring that safe spaces do not degenerate into sites of intersectional oppression and/or undermining of other women but rather comprehensive wellbeing spaces.

Feminist Popular Education Strategy:
Reclaiming Power and Citizenship
-
Create a safe space of trust and solidarity
Start with the concrete experiences of LBQT+ persons daily lives -
Use stories, art, theater, and other ways to generate open-ended questions that promote critical and creative thinking and deepen understanding about power
-
Promote learning by doing, connecting to concrete problems and practical solutions
-
Prioritize reflection, dialogue, and action as the primary way to learn
-
Recognize the need to challenge assumptions and probe alternatives
-
Share information and terms that enable participants to name what they are experiencing and identify the global forces behind the local and personal
-
Tap into LBQT+ persons sense of hope, inspiration, and joy
-
Provide time for self-care and personal renewal
-
We use the Process of Empowerment model to inform the ways in which we think through power, access to power, and the resources that are needed for LBQT+ persons to access comprehensive wellness and therefore, health equity.
